Jim Carpenter

James J. Carpenter has been Senior Executive Vice President and Chief Lending Officer of the Company and New York Community Bank, since January 1, 2006, and Senior Executive Vice President of New York Commercial Bank since its establishment on December 30, 2005. Previously, Mr. Carpenter served as Executive Vice President and Chief Lending Officer (from February 1, 2005), Executive Vice President and Assistant Chief Lending Officer (from January 1, 2003) and Senior Vice President and Mortgage Lending Officer (from November 30, 2000). Mr. Carpenter joined the Company on November 30, 2000 in connection with its acquisition of Haven Bancorp, Inc., parent of CFS Bank, where he served as Senior Vice President in charge of multi-family, commercial, and construction lending (from November 1994) and as head of its Asset Management Department (from December 1991).

Before joining CFS Bank, Mr. Carpenter served as Assistant Vice President in the Commercial Loan Workout Department and as a midtown Manhattan Branch Manager for American Savings Bank. He began his career in group credit and mortgage life insurance sales with the Beneficial Insurance Group and Minnesota Mutual Life.

Mr. Carpenter serves as a member of the Board of Directors of the New York Community Bank Foundation, the Real Estate Practitioners Institute, the Long Island Housing Partnership, the Long Island Museum, and the Family Service League. In addition, he is past president of the Metropolitan Mortgage Officers Society and a member and past president of the Three Villages Kiwanis Club.

An honors graduate of the National School of Banking in Fairfield, Connecticut, Mr. Carpenter holds an MBA in accounting from Fordham University and a Bachelor of Science in business administration/finance from the University of Richmond.
